Beaches

Kaputaş:

A must-see along this pristine turquoise coastline is the perfectly formed beach of Kaputaş. This stunning 500 metre golden sandy cove lies just ten minutes away between Kalkan and Kaş, hidden at the bottom of a large canyon in the cliff face. Although this dramatic backdrop means there is over one hundred steps down to reach it, it really is worth the effort and you will be rewarded when you step into the clear ultra blue water. Voted one of the top photographed beaches in Turkey, be sure to remember your camera, as standing at the the top, this is a spectacular sight you will want to remember. You can reach Kaputaş by taxi or the local dolmuş service that runs regularly between Kalkan and Kaş (approx every 30 minutes) and stops conveniently at the viewpoint at the top. In recent years, a small cafe and facilities are operating in the peak season, allowing you to spend a full day soaking up the natural beauty of this especially unique shoreline.

Patara:

An UNESCO world heritage site and an integral part of the Lycian Way, you cannot visit this area without exploring this spectacular place. Home to the Caretta Caretta sea turtles as an important nesting site, Patara boasts an unspoilt and protected 18km stretch of incredibly white sandy beach, backed by impressive sand dunes and the mouth of the Xantos river. As you enter the site, you will pass through the quaint and untouched village of Patara, home to a scattering of small family run guest houses and restaurants, before reaching the impressive Lycian ruins of the once mighty ancient harbour city from where the beach gets its name. With the exception of a small cafe where you can take respite from the sun with drinks and snacks, there is nothing man-made in sight, giving you a perfect opportunity to find a private spot on Turkeys largest stretch of coastline. You can reach Patara by taxi or the local dolmuş and will pay a small entrance fee (approx 15tl) that will grant you access to both the ruins and the beach for up to ten days.

Kalkan Public Beach & Beach Clubs:

Kalkan bay is home to a small and easy to reach public beach. Wandering down through the white-washed old town, you will find this pebbly beach situated at the end of the harbour, and close to the cafes, shops and amenities. There are plenty of private and highly recommended beach clubs dotted around the small hillside coves of the bay, boasting magnificent views and sand-free platforms for sunbathing and steps into the sea. You will pay a small entrance fee for each beach club which will cover your sunbed and parasol hire, use of beach towels, as well as access to the restaurant for drinks, meals and ice creams as well as shower and toilet facilities. Some beach clubs have platforms in the sea you can swim to and dive from and all have access to the local water sports team. For beach clubs on the other side of the bay, you can trundle over on a small free shuttle boat from the corner of the harbour. You can spend many a day on holiday finding your favourite spot along the azure coast of this beautiful bay.
