Islamlar – an idyllic small mountain village tucked away into the foothills of the infamous Taurus mountains just fifteen minutes drive away from Kalkan. Surrounded by rolling green hills and standing at 400 metres above sea level, means this country retreat has the benefit of cooler climes and unbeatable panoramic views of Kalkan bay and beyond.
Once a Greek settlement known as Bodamya, this humble village continues its traditions and simple way of life. In the old village square you can find the old tea house where locals while away the afternoons playing backgammon, as well as the bakery which still uses the ancient local stone flour mill powered by the rushing mountain springs.
Islamlar is a peaceful haven for walking enthusiasts. Not only can you venture into treks along an integral part of the Lycian Way, but you can also mill around the local olive groves or wander down the aisles of the beautiful surrounding vineyards.
Islamlar has trout farms in abundance and you can find a few family-run restaurants where you can sample the local fish and home made wines.
The ancient architecture has been well preserved in this land-before-time village, and properties offer an off the beaten track and tranquil advantage. With just a short trip to the lively hub of Kalkan, this pretty little gem really is the best of both worlds.
